Pressform welds what it fabricates. Industrial welding in Perth, not mobile repairs

Most search results for welding in Perth are mobile welders who come to you. Pressform is the other kind: a 2,200 m² fabrication workshop where welding is one operation in a finished part. If you need a gate repaired on site, we are not the right call. If you need a welded assembly made to a drawing, a batch of brackets welded identically, a stainless vessel component, or refractory anchors and studs for a furnace, you are in the right place.

Welding here sits between cutting and finishing. Parts arrive at the welding bay already laser cut, pressed, rolled or punched in the same building, which means fit-up is right and the welder is not compensating for someone else's tolerance. After welding, machining, painting and inspection happen a few metres away.

Robotic welding for production components

For a part you need once, a good welder with a jig is the right answer. For a part you need every month, a robot is cheaper, faster and more consistent, provided somebody has designed the jig and programmed the cell properly. Pressform does both in-house.

Our Panasonic industrial robotic welding system has a 2,000 mm reach and runs MIG and TIG processes on mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium, as well as hard-facing. We design and build a dedicated jig for your component, prove the program on first-off parts, and then every unit in the run is welded the same way, at the same speed, with the same penetration.

When robotic welding makes sense

  • Repeat components in batches or standing orders
  • Weld appearance or consistency is specified
  • Assemblies with many short welds, slow by hand
  • Inconsistent batches from manual welding elsewhere

When it doesn't

  • Genuine one-offs and very large structures
  • Parts that change every batch, where jig and program cost is not recovered

Tell us the annual quantity when you send the drawing. If the robot is the wrong tool, we will say so and quote it manually.

Stud welding, refractory anchors and furnace work

Pressform was founded in 1976 by a metallurgist making refractory anchors for Western Australia's cement, steel and petrochemical plants, and has manufactured close to 50 million anchors since. Stud welding is part of that heritage: we produce and test the studs, weld anchors and fasteners, and have developed procedures for dissimilar-metal welding on furnaces and process vessels that may be decades old.

If your job involves refractory lining, kiln or furnace maintenance, or stud-welded fixings in stainless or heat-resisting alloys, this is specialist work we have done for longer than most of our competitors have existed.

Send the drawing

Include material, weld symbols or a note on what the weld has to do, quantity, finish and required date. A sample part is fine if there is no drawing.

Process, any jig or tooling cost for repeat work, cutting and forming of the components, finishing and inspection. One price, one lead time.

Components are cut, formed and machined in-house so they fit before welding.

Welding FAQs

What welding processes do you offer?

MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), stick (MMAW) and submerged arc (SAW), plus robotic MIG and TIG on our Panasonic cell, dual-head semi-automatic welding, stud welding and hard-facing.

Can you weld stainless steel and aluminium?

Yes, both manually and robotically. Stainless (austenitic and ferritic grades) and aluminium are routine; nickel alloys and dissimilar-metal joints are handled with procedures developed by our in-house metallurgist.

How big a structure can you weld?

Complex welded structures up to 10 tonnes, handled on 10-tonne overhead cranes, with rolled, pressed and machined sub-components made in the same workshop.

When is robotic welding worth it?

When the same part is needed repeatedly. The jig and program are a one-off cost; after that each unit is faster and more consistent than manual welding. Send the drawing with an annual quantity and we will quote the option that costs you less.

Do you weld to Australian Standards, and are your welders qualified?

Yes. Welding is carried out to AS/NZS 1554 and ISO 3834 quality requirements for fusion welding.

Do you offer weld inspection or NDT?

Every job receives visual and dimensional inspection under our quality management system.

Can you cut, bend and machine the parts as well as weld them?

Yes. That is the point of welding at Pressform rather than a welding-only shop. Laser cutting, pressing, bending, rolling, punching, machining and painting are all on site in Bassendean.

Do you do small or one-off welding jobs?

Yes, provided they are workshop jobs made to a drawing or sample.

What is the lead time for welding work?

It depends on the job, quantity and whether jigs are needed, and it is confirmed in writing with every quote. Tell us your deadline when you send the drawing.
