Metal Bending & Plate Rolling Perth

Bending is the step between the flat blank and the finished part. Pressform runs two press brakes, 400 tonnes × 4,000 mm and 150 tonnes × 3,600 mm, plus a CNC plate roll, and a range of mechanical and hydraulic presses from 2.5 to 150 tonnes, so channels, brackets, trays, enclosures, cylinders, cones and formed sections are folded or rolled here from blanks we laser cut here, and welded and finished before they leave.

Metal bending in Perth for fabricated and production parts

Most fabricated parts are bent somewhere. A bracket is a folded blank; a chute is folded plate; a tank is rolled plate with folded stiffeners. Where the bend is made, and whether the blank was cut with the right bend allowance, decides whether the part fits on assembly.

Pressform folds and rolls the parts it cuts. Blanks come off the fibre laser or turret press already sized for the bend radius and material, go to the press brake or the rolls, and then to welding. Fewer hand-offs, and the bend allowance is calculated once by the people cutting the blank.

Typical work: brackets, channels, angles and Z-sections; trays, enclosures, boxes and covers; chute, hopper and bin panels; cylinders, ducts and tank shells; cones and reducers; stiffeners, gussets and formed plate for structural assemblies; and formed sheet for architectural and shopfitting work.

Press brake, plate rolls or press tool?

Three ways to put a shape in flat metal, and the estimator will route the job unless you specify.

Press brake, for straight bends

Channels, angles, brackets, trays, enclosures, folded panels. No tooling cost; the right answer for one-offs and short runs of anything with straight folds, up to 4,000 mm long.

Plate rolls, for curves

Cylinders, ducts, tank shells, cones and curved panels. Rolled from flat plate to a specified diameter; cones rolled from developed blanks.

Press tool, for repeat parts

When the same bracket, cup or formed clip is needed by the thousand, a press tool on our 630-tonne press makes each one in seconds.

Many parts use two of the three: a rolled shell with folded stiffeners; a pressed blank folded at the ends. They are quoted together.

Plate rolling and cone sections

Rolled work is where a fabricator's geometry gets tested. A cylinder that is out of round or a cone whose developed blank was wrong shows up as a seam that will not close. Pressform develops the flat pattern, laser cuts it, rolls it on the CNC plate roll and welds the seam in the same shop, so if anything needs adjusting it happens here, not on your site.

Typical rolled work: chute and hopper cones, reducers and transitions, tank and vessel shells, duct sections, guards and drum bodies, curved architectural panels, and rolled stiffening rings and flanges.

How to get parts bent or rolled at Pressform

Send the drawing

A folded model (STEP) or a dimensioned drawing with material, thickness, bend radii and quantity. If you send a flat pattern, tell us the bend allowance used.

Inside radius versus thickness, bend sequence, tooling reach for narrow returns, and grain direction on stainless and aluminium.

In Bassendean, then deliver or hold for collection.

Rule of thumb for bend radius

Inside bend radius should be at least the material thickness for mild steel, and more for stainless, aluminium and high-tensile grades. Go tighter and the outer face can crack or the part can spring back off-angle. We check radius against thickness and grade (its "K-factor") for every drawing before quoting.

Bending and rolling FAQs

How long and how thick can you bend?

Up to 4,000 mm on our 400-tonne press brake, with a 150-tonne × 3,600 mm brake for shorter runs. Maximum thickness depends on length and material. Send the drawing and we will confirm it against the job.

Can you roll plate into cylinders and cones?

Yes. Our CNC plate roll handles 10 mm plate at 1,800 mm wide and up to 32 mm plate in narrow widths (75 mm), including cone sections. We develop the flat pattern, cut, roll and weld the seam in-house.

Do you do pipe or tube bending?

No. Pressform folds and rolls sheet, plate and sections; we do not bend tube or pipe. Tube is cut to length on our bandsaw for fabrication.

What is the minimum bend radius?

It depends on material and thickness. As a rule, inside radius should be at least the material thickness for mild steel, and more for stainless, aluminium and high-tensile grades. We check every drawing for bends that will crack or spring back and tell you before quoting.

Can you bend stainless and aluminium?

Yes. Both need larger radii and allowance for spring-back, and aluminium grain direction matters; our metallurgist and estimators account for it.

Do I need to supply a flat pattern?

No. Send the folded drawing or model and we develop the flat, including bend allowance, when we cut the blank. If you supply a flat, tell us the allowance you used.

Can you weld and paint the parts after bending?

Yes. Manual and robotic welding, machining and painting are all on site in Bassendean.

Do you take one-off bending jobs?

Yes, including trade work for other fabricators. A single folded bracket is quoted the same way as a batch.

What is the lead time?

Depends on quantity, thickness and current workload. As a guide, straightforward folding runs 1-2 weeks and rolled, multi-process or fully finished jobs 3-4 weeks. Exact timing is confirmed in writing with every quote.
