CNC turret press punching a perforated steel panel at Pressform, Perth

CNC Punching & Perforating Perth

Turret punching of sheet and plate from 0.5 mm to 20 mm, covering holes, slots, louvres, embosses and custom perforation, in a Bassendean workshop that also bends, welds and paints the part.

Pressform's 30-tonne CNC turret press punches, perforates and forms flat metal faster and cheaper than cutting when a part is mostly holes. Perforated screens, guards, enclosures, louvred panels, brackets with hole patterns and punched blanks for pressing all come off the turret in steel, stainless and aluminium, and go straight to the press brake, the welding bay or the paint line without leaving the building.

CNC turret punching in Perth

A turret press carries a set of punches and dies and moves the sheet under them on CNC, at hundreds of holes a minute, every one the same. Where laser cutting traces each hole, punching stamps it in one hit, so a part with a lot of holes, a repeating pattern, a louvre or an embossed feature is usually quicker and cheaper to punch. It also forms: louvres, countersinks, extrusions for tapping, knockouts and small embosses that a laser cannot make.

Pressform runs turret punching as one process among many. The same nested sheet can be punched for the pattern and laser cut for the profile; the punched part can be bent on our press brakes, welded manually or robotically, powder coated, and delivered as a finished panel or enclosure.

Typical punched work: perforated screens and guards, ventilation and louvred panels, electrical enclosures and switchboard panels, brackets and plates with bolt patterns, shelving and racking components, drainage and sieve plates, architectural and feature screens, and punched blanks for pressing and forming.

Punching or laser cutting?

Both are on the floor at Pressform, and the estimator will route the job unless you specify.

Punch it when

  • The part is mostly holes, slots or a repeating pattern.
  • You need a formed feature in the flat: a louvre, countersink, extrusion or emboss.
  • Quantity is high and the tooling already exists.
  • Material is thin to medium sheet.

Laser cut it when

  • The profile is complex or curved.
  • Holes are few and the outline is most of the work.
  • Thickness is above the punch limit, or the material is reflective and thick.
  • Edge finish matters more than speed.

Many parts are both: punched for the pattern, laser cut for the profile, on the same nest. Laser cutting in Perth →

Custom perforated metal, screens and louvres

Off-the-shelf perforated sheet comes in a handful of patterns and gauges. When the pattern, open area, pitch, margin or material is not in the catalogue, or the panel needs a blank border, a specific hole layout around fixings, or a louvre for airflow, it is a turret job. Pressform perforates to your drawing in steel, stainless and aluminium, and then folds, frames, welds and finishes the panel.

Common uses: machine and conveyor guards, acoustic and ventilation panels, sunscreens and privacy screens, balustrade infills, drainage and sieve plates, filter and strainer components, and architectural feature panels.

How to get punched or perforated parts from Pressform

1

Send the drawing

DXF or DWG at 1:1 is ideal. For perforation, give hole size, pitch, pattern, open area if specified, margins and any blank zones.

2

We quote in writing

Punching, any laser cutting on the same part, forming, welding and finishing. One price, one lead time.

3

We nest and punch

Tooling is selected from the library; special tools quoted if the pattern needs one.

4

Downstream operations

Bending, welding, machining and finishing in the same workshop if specified.

5

Inspection and delivery

Checked, then delivered or collected from Bassendean.

Why choose Pressform for punching and perforating in Perth

Rare in Perth

None of our benchmarked Perth competitors run a CNC turret press. Most shops laser everything; we punch what should be punched.

0.5 to 20 mm

Thin enclosure sheet to heavy plate on one machine.

Punch and laser on the same sheet

The cheapest route for each feature, not one process for everything.

Formed, welded and finished on site

A punched panel becomes a finished guard or enclosure without a second supplier.

Custom perforation, not catalogue sheet

Your pattern, your material, your margins.

Punching and perforating FAQs

How thick can you punch?

From 0.5 mm sheet up to 20 mm plate on our 30-tonne CNC turret press.

Do you supply perforated metal sheet?

We perforate to your pattern rather than selling stock sheet. If a standard catalogue pattern suits, a sheet supplier may be cheaper; if you need a specific hole size, pitch, open area, margin, material or a panel that is then folded and framed, that is what we do.

Is punching cheaper than laser cutting?

For parts that are mostly holes, patterns or louvres, usually yes. A punch makes a hole in one hit while a laser traces it. For complex outlines, laser is usually cheaper. We quote the better route, or both on the same sheet.

Can you punch louvres, countersinks and embosses?

Yes. Forming tools in the turret make louvres, countersinks, extrusions for tapping, embosses and knockouts in the flat sheet.

What materials can you punch?

Mild and high-tensile steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, brass, Galvabond and pre-coated sheet.

Do you have my hole size in stock?

We hold a library of round, square, oblong and forming tools. A special tool is quoted once and kept for repeat work.

Can you bend and weld the punched panel?

Yes. Press-brake bending, plate rolling, manual and robotic welding, machining and painting are all on site in Bassendean.

Do you take small jobs?

Yes. A single perforated panel or guard is quoted the same way as a batch.

What is the lead time?

Depends on quantity, tooling and current workload. As a guide, straightforward punching runs 1-2 weeks and multi-process or fully finished jobs 3-4 weeks. Exact timing is confirmed in writing with every quote.
