If you need a metal component or structure made to drawing, you usually have two choices in Perth: a fabrication shop that cuts, bends and welds, or a specialist that presses, punches or machines. Pressform does all of it. Our Bassendean workshop combines heavy fabrication with production manufacturing, which means we can take a job from raw plate or bar through to a painted, inspected, delivered part without sending it anywhere else.

Pressing, stamping & deep drawing

Twenty-four press machines from 15 to 600 tonnes, including a 630-tonne hydraulic press with deep-draw die cushion, supported by our own tool room, which designs, builds and maintains press tooling in-house.

Plasma cutting

High-definition CNC plasma cutting for thicker plate and larger blanks where laser is not the economical choice.

Bending and plate rolling

Press brakes to 400 tonnes and 4,000 mm long, CNC plate rolling from 10 mm × 1,800 mm up to 32 mm plate including cone sections, and mechanical/hydraulic bending from 2.5 to 150 tonnes. Heavy grades like 4140 are heated first so they bend cleanly instead of cracking.

A 30-tonne CNC turret press for punched and perforated sheet from 0.5 mm to 20 mm: screens, panels, enclosures, guards and any part where holes, slots and louvres are cheaper to punch than to cut.

Cutting and cropping

Automatic bandsaw with feed table and hydraulic bundling, and cropping to 250 mm × 10 mm and 75 mm × 20 mm, for cut-to-length sections, flats and bar.

Painting and finishing

Electrostatic painting in 2-pack and enamel done on site. We also arrange sand blasting, rumbling, powder coating, hot-dip galvanising, anodising and electroless plating so parts arrive ready to install.

Engineering

Our engineering team reviews every drawing for manufacturability and will suggest changes that lower cost or improve the part, such as a different material, a pressed feature instead of a welded one, a nesting layout that saves plate. If you have a concept rather than a drawing, we can design for manufacture from your brief.

Pressform fabricates in carbon steel (including forming, high-tensile and boiler grades), quench-and-tempered steels, austenitic and ferritic stainless steels, nickel alloys, aluminium, copper, brass and titanium.

We have a metallurgist on staff. That is unusual for a fabrication shop and it changes what we can take on: material selection for corrosive or high-temperature service, weld-procedure decisions for dissimilar metals, and forming parameters for grades that crack or spring back when handled like mild steel. If the drawing says 316L, Inconel or 2205 duplex, the person quoting it knows what that means for the job.

From custom components to fabricated structures up to 10 tonnes

Fabrication capability is usually described by the biggest thing a shop can lift. Ours is 10 tonnes on overhead cranes, with a 4,000 mm press brake and 32 mm plate rolling behind it. That covers skids, frames, chutes, hoppers, tanks, platforms, pipe supports and structural assemblies for mine sites and processing plants.

What that description leaves out is the other end of the range. The same workshop produces washers, clips, brackets, clamps, valve components and pressed parts by the thousand, because the pressing, punching and machining equipment is here, not across town.

So the honest answer to "can you handle my job" is: from a single 0.5 mm stainless bracket to a 10-tonne welded structure, and from a prototype of one to a production run with dedicated tooling. If you are not sure which category yours falls into, send us the drawing.

Requirements and quote

Send drawings, a sample or a description. Our estimators confirm material, quantity, tolerances, finish and delivery, and quote in writing.

Engineering review

Drawings are checked for manufacturability. Where a change would reduce cost or improve the part, we tell you before work starts. Tooling or jigs are designed if the job needs them.

Material

Plate, sheet, section or bar is sourced to the specified grade and certified where required.

Cutting

Laser, plasma, saw or crop, with CNC nesting for plate work.

Forming

Pressing, press-brake bending, rolling or punching as the part requires.

Machining

Milled, turned, drilled and threaded features are added.

Frequently asked questions about metal fabrication in Perth

Do you take on small or one-off fabrication jobs, or only production runs?

Both. A large share of our work is one-off: a single bracket, a modified part, a short run of ten. The same workshop also produces components by the thousand on dedicated tooling. There is no job too small to quote.

What materials can Pressform fabricate?

Carbon steel (including forming, high-tensile and boiler grades), quench-and-tempered steels, austenitic and ferritic stainless steels, nickel alloys, aluminium, copper, brass and titanium. We have a metallurgist on staff, so if your job involves an unusual grade, dissimilar-metal welding or high-temperature service, ask. That is where we add the most value.

How large and how heavy can fabricated structures be?

Up to 10 tonnes, handled on 10-tonne overhead cranes. Our press brake is 4,000 mm long and 400 tonnes, plate rolling handles 32 mm plate, and the fibre lasers cut to 25 mm. At the other end of the scale we punch and press sheet from 0.5 mm.

Can you fabricate from my drawings, or can Pressform design the part?

Either. Send drawings in DXF, DWG, STEP or PDF, a physical sample, or a description of what the part has to do. Our engineering team reviews every drawing for manufacturability and can design for manufacture from a brief if no drawing exists.

How is metal fabrication priced, and what affects the cost?

Every job is quoted individually. The main cost drivers are material grade and thickness, the number of processes involved (a part that is cut, bent, welded, machined and painted costs more than one that is only cut), quantity, tolerances and finish. To get an accurate quote quickly, send a drawing with material, quantity, finish and required date. If you only have a concept, send that and we will help scope it.

What are typical lead times?

Simple laser-cut or pressed parts are often turned around in 1 to 2 weeks, and larger fabricated assemblies typically in 3 to 4 weeks. Exact lead time depends on current workload and is confirmed in writing with every quote. If you have a hard deadline, tell us at the quoting stage.

Do you provide finishing such as painting, powder coating and galvanising?

Yes. Electrostatic painting (2-pack and enamel) is done in our workshop. Sand blasting, rumbling, powder coating, hot-dip galvanising, anodising and electroless nickel, zinc or chrome plating are arranged through our finishing partners and included in the one quote, so the part arrives ready to fit.
