Fibre laser cutting steel plate at Pressform Engineering, Perth

Laser Cutting Perth

CNC fibre laser cutting of steel, stainless and aluminium up to 25 mm, in a Bassendean workshop that can also bend, weld, machine and paint the part.

Pressform runs 3 kW and 6 kW fibre lasers with CNC nesting, cutting flat parts from 0.5 mm sheet to 25 mm plate. Send a DXF, DWG or PDF and you will get a written quote from an estimating team that has been cutting and fabricating metal in Perth for almost 50 years.

CNC fibre laser cutting in Perth

Laser cutting is usually the first operation in a fabricated part and the one where accuracy is decided. Get it wrong and every bend, weld and hole downstream inherits the error. Pressform cuts on fibre lasers rather than CO₂ because fibre handles reflective materials such as aluminium, copper and brass as cleanly as steel, and cuts thin sheet faster.

Our two machines, at 3 kW and 6 kW, are paired with CNC nesting software that lays parts out for minimum plate waste. On a production run that nesting is often the difference between a competitive unit price and an expensive one. On a one-off it means you are not paying for a full sheet to get one bracket.

Typical work: brackets, gussets, flanges, plates, profiles, blanks for pressing and bending, machine guards, screens, signage blanks, wear plates and prototype parts. If it is flat and it is metal, it is probably a laser job.

Steel, stainless and aluminium laser cutting, and the harder alloys

Fibre lasers cut reflective and exotic materials that CO₂ lasers struggle with, which is why we can quote aluminium, copper, brass and nickel alloys alongside mild and stainless steel. Pressform also has a metallurgist on staff. For most laser jobs that does not matter. For a part in duplex, Inconel or a high-tensile grade that will be formed or welded afterwards, it matters a great deal, because the person quoting understands how the material will behave in the next operation, not just how it cuts.

04

Laser cutting or plasma cutting?

Both are on the floor at Pressform, and the estimator will choose the right one for the job unless you specify.

Fibre laser

Sheet and plate to 25 mm, tight tolerances, clean edges, small holes and fine detail, reflective and non-ferrous materials. The default for anything under 20 mm.

High-definition plasma

Heavier plate and large blanks where laser is slower and dearer per part, and where the edge will be machined or welded anyway.

If you are not sure, send the drawing and say what the part is for. You will get a recommendation with the quote.

Laser cut parts that leave the workshop finished

Most laser cutting suppliers cut and post. Pressform cuts and keeps going.

How to get laser cut parts from Pressform

1

Send the drawing

DXF or DWG is ideal. A PDF or a dimensioned sketch works too. Include material, thickness, quantity and when you need it.

2

We quote in writing

Material, cutting, any nesting advantage, and any bending, welding, machining or finishing you have asked for. One price, one lead time.

3

We nest and cut

Parts are nested for minimum waste and cut on the machine best suited to the thickness and material.

4

Downstream operations

Bending, welding, machining and finishing in the same workshop if specified.

5

Inspection and delivery

Checked against the drawing under our quality management system, then delivered or ready for collection in Bassendean.

Laser cutting FAQs

How thick can you laser cut?

Up to 25 mm on our 6 kW fibre laser. Thicker plate is cut on high-definition plasma.

What file format do you need?

DXF or DWG at 1:1 scale is best. PDF drawings and dimensioned sketches are fine. We will redraw them, and tell you if anything is ambiguous before cutting.

Do you cut aluminium, copper and brass?

Yes. Fibre lasers handle reflective metals that CO₂ lasers cannot, so aluminium, copper, brass and nickel alloys are all quoted routinely.

Do you do one-off or small laser cutting jobs?

Yes. A single part is quoted the same way as a thousand.

What tolerance can I expect?

Tolerances depend on material and thickness, and are confirmed with your quote. If your part needs tighter, tell us. It may be a job for machining after cutting, which we also do in-house.

What is the lead time for laser cutting?

It depends on quantity, thickness and current workload, and it is confirmed in writing with every quote. Tell us your deadline when you send the drawing.

Can you bend, weld or paint the parts after cutting?

Yes. That is the point of using Pressform rather than a cut-only shop. Bending, welding, pressing, punching, machining and painting are all done on site in Bassendean.

Do you laser cut tube or pipe?

Our fibre lasers are flat-bed machines for sheet and plate. Tube and pipe are cut to length on our automatic bandsaw and profiled on plasma where required.

Where are you, and do you deliver?

23 Jackson Street, Bassendean WA 6054. Perth metro delivery on our own truck; freight arranged for regional WA, interstate and export.
